The Accountant will be responsible for various general accounting operations including general ledger reconciliations, month-end closing entries, preparation of state and local tax filings, benefits and payroll reconciliations, year-end audit preparation, and the support of financial reporting activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares monthly G/L account reconciliations in compliance with GAAP
- Analyzes account activity, understands company trends, and detects issues and errors
- Prepares sales and use, property, business license, and other state and local tax returns. Performs tax research as needed
- Processes, reconciles, and records employee benefits related transactions
- Record payroll activity
- Compiles and analyzes financial information, special projects as assigned.
- Identify and suggest ways to improve department efficiency and accuracy
- Assists with financial and tax audits
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor degree or equivalent in Accounting/Finance
- Minimum 3 years of accounting experience
- CPA certification is highly desirable
- Institutional investment research and broker-dealer industry experience a plus
- Excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
- Hands-on experience with accounting software packages
- Strong MS Excel skills including VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables
- Accuracy and attention to detail
