Job Qualifications
Education: California Certified Paralegal
Experience: 1+ years Civil Litigation experience required; Employment Law experience preferred
Language: English. Spanish preferred but not required
Excellent written/verbal communication skills with attention to detail
Excellent hands-on computer skills
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work well independently and within a team
Ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate files
Familiar with case management software, Microsoft Word Suite, Adobe Pro, and other legal technology
Familiar with California Discovery Act and all deadlines and dates.
Job Responsibilities
File and serve complaints, proofs of service, other pleadings, motions and trial documents and strong experience and knowledge of court filing systems, procedures, and requirements of State and Federal Courts
Assist with propounding and responding to various forms of discovery, such as written discovery, setting depositions, responding to demands for physical examinations, with extensive knowledge of the notice and deadline requirements of discovery
Edit and finalize litigation documents
Maintain internal case database (Smart Advocate)
Perform transcription and transcribes dictation
Maintain the Sr. Attorney and department’s calendar by scheduling, rescheduling, or cancelling appointments. Alert attorneys about cancelations or new meetings
Scheduling mediations and depositions
Respond to emails and correspondence on behalf of the attorneys
Maintain filing systems
Plan, coordinate, and ensure timelines for department’s legal matters including materials for meetings, conference calls and follow-up items
Coordinate and arrange for court interpreters as needed for cases
General clerical duties include copying, scanning, faxing and data entry
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and complete them under time constraints
Drafting of court documents and preparation of court filings
