Mission of Position: As the primary inter-departmental liaison, the core mission of the Engineering Manager (EM) is to ensure customer satisfaction through on-time delivery and product quality. The EM will achieve this by ensuring inter-company alignment between Engineering, Sales & Marketing, New Product Development, Quality, Production, and Customer Service/Technical Support with personnel both in the U.S. and at the Factory in Mexico.

Team Leadership: Provide leadership and structure for the engineering team. Facilitate effective team meetings, manage project conflict with a focus on resolution, identify and address common group
challenges to improve team dynamics. Build a collaborative inter-departmental culture that creates
company-wide alignment. Persuade others without direct authority.
Liaison: Collaborate with Engineering, Sales & Marketing, New Product Development, Industrial Design, Quality, Manufacturing & Production, Purchasing and Technical Support team members to create alignment and coordinate the timely completion of early project phase activities.
Project Management: Lead project planning (scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, etc.), execution and monitoring of engineering project from kickoff to release for shipment through post launch audit.Facilitate and coordinate project activities to maximize use of best practices including team problem solving and decision making. Periodically present status of projects to Leadership Team/management. Contribute as a team member on 5-7 projects of moderate to high levels of complexity, including projects with global teams.
New Product Development: Analyze category data and trends to find new product opportunities. Support product development from concept to validation through feasibility, design, customer evaluations, testing, certification and approval.
Participate in brainstorming sessions, creative thinking activities, and investigation of new
Prior experience & knowledge of, and the ability to interact with UL and DLC for obtaining
appropriate fixture certifications.
The ability to specify and coordinate PCB electrical design for new Level 2 PCB’s (with
Research emerging technologies to identify and validate market and technical opportunities.
Evaluates findings to develop new concepts and builds prototypes to present to customers.
Collaborates with Product line and Marketing Managers to review design proposals and provide feedback based on regulatory, corporate and customer requirements on new product ideas and
Performs concept validation and prototype evaluation. Conducts competitors’ products teardown and performs cost analysis. This includes product testing for compliance.
Manage New Product Development project risk: Determine probability and impact of risks;
Develop strategic plans to reduce impacts of risks; Track, monitor and document risk factors; Critical path analysis
Coordinate projects rooted in electrical engineering, LED design, power supplies and similar
Manage photometric layouts/applications department for efficient lighting layouts.
Manage tool making processes both in house and with OEM suppliers.
Knowledge of NVLAP light laboratory requirements, ability to maintain a NVLAP approved
Production: Support new and existing product production. Improve quality metrics through research, recommendation, and implementation of modern manufacturing and production methodologies and leadership. Troubleshoot current and new product production programs to achieve budget/cost, production and quality targets and commitments. Identify and champion process improvement solutions.

BS degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls or related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in product development related discipline
Minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibility for New Product Development project and personnel
management involving a broad range of technologies and processes required
Evidence demonstrating an ability to build collaborative teams, create inter-departmental alignment, exercise sound personal judgment, make sound decisions, and drive healthy cross functional results
Experienced in computer-aided mechanical design and simulation similar to SolidWorks, Pro-E, AutoCAD or Inventor
Experience with UL/ETL, CSA, NEC certification
Proficient with common Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Knowledge of high intensity discharge, compact fluorescent and LED lighting components, technologies, materials and methods
Design simulation and testing experience, including finite element stress, vibration, thermal, and /or mold filling analysis
Highly self-motivated to work diligently to achieve personal and company goals under a team environment
Knowledge of power supply design and coding is a strong plus
Knowledge of mid power applications for horticultural grow lighting a significant plus
