This position serves as the Office Lead on assigned projects or performs moderately complex engineering assignments, evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques to a broad set of complex assignments.

We currently seek a high caliber HVAC Mechanical Engineer for a direct hire with our client’s team of experienced professionals. Based in Berkeley, California. Must have pharmaceutical or bio-med experience and clean room design is necessary.

• Apply Cost Competitive Execution techniques to develop the most cost-effective total project solution for execution of the discipline engineering work
• Analyze and make independent recommendations regarding solutions to problems with varying complexity in accordance with organization and/or project objectives and guidelines
• Supervise and assist designer and engineers in technical aspect of project
• Design and layout of mechanical systems and components, including HVAC duct work, plant utility, piping, plumbing, fire protection and equipment layout for biopharmaceutical facilities
• Design/selection of air handling units and special exhaust systems for biotech facilities
• Design and Layout of HVAC/Building services; Clean Room Lab/ Plumbing, Fire Protection and Plant Utility systems; Steam/Condensate, Hot Water, Chilled Water, Tower Water and Compressed Air
• Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, permitting, and subcontracting
• Prepare equipment and material procurement technical packages (Request for Quotation (RFQ)/ Request for Purchase (RFP)) and perform vendor technical bid evaluations
• Develop HVAC/Utility P&IDs, flow and riser diagrams
• Perform and check calculations, specify equipment, and solve moderately complex engineering problems
• Develop and review specifications, including design criteria and scope of work for design and construction
• Coordination and interaction with clients and contractors throughout project design and construction completion
• Coordination with other disciplines throughout design activities
• Review vendor equipment documentation within the discipline and from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seek discrepancy resolution
• Construction support including response to RFI, submittal and shop drawing review and job walk/preparation of punch lists and observation reports
• Other duties as assigned

Basic Job Requirements
• Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in Mechanical engineering field of study and 10 plus years hands on experience in nonresidential building and facility design and previous experience as a project lead.
• Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
• Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
• Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
• Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
• Licensed Mechanical Engineer in California
• Experience in Biotech and/or Pharmaceutical facility design.
• Experience using AutoCad
* Experience in HVAC/Building services and Plant Utility systems design and layout for: Plant Utilities systems: Steam/Condensate, Hot Water, Chilled Water, Tower Water, Compressed Air Building services: Plumbing, Fire Protection

HVAC: Industrial, R&D and clean room design
* Knowledge of mechanical and energy codes.

Other Job Requirements
• Working knowledge and familiarity with Revit models for mechanical systems design modeling, review and interference check is a plus 
• AutoCAD, Microsoft office 
• HVAC and Title 24 software and manual engineering calculations
• Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing and fire protection codes and standards

Preferred Qualifications
• Revit experience preferred
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards, commercial availability and cost of materials
• Effort-hour estimating and staff forecasting
• Practical field experience
• Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
